What Drink Direct is

Drink Direct is an independent research resource that tracks how Canadian provinces and territories are changing their direct-to-consumer (DTC) alcohol rules. We read publicly available government and regulator sources, summarize them in plain language, and link back to the originals so you can check our work.

That's the whole job: a starting point and a map of where to look. It is not a substitute for professional advice or for the regulators' own words.

Nothing on this site is legal, regulatory, tax, or professional advice, and reading it doesn't create any advisor relationship between you and us. Alcohol rules are specific to your situation, your product, and your province — the kind of thing that needs a qualified lawyer or the regulator directly, not a website summary. If you're making a business decision based on these rules, talk to a professional first.

That's true whether you're a producer deciding whether you're allowed to ship into a province, or a consumer deciding whether you're allowed to order from one. Reading this site does not make a shipment or an order legal — whether it is depends on facts specific to you (your licence, product type, quantity, and destination) that we don't have and can't evaluate.

We don't guarantee it's accurate or current

This area of law is moving quickly. Provinces sign agreements, change regulations, and update their own guidance on their own timelines — sometimes faster than we can. We make no promise that anything here is accurate, complete, or up to date, and some pages carry open questions we haven't resolved yet. The “last verified” date on a province page tells you when we last checked it, not that it's still correct today.

Beyond rules simply changing, our own research and summarizing can be wrong — we read, condense, and paraphrase primary sources by hand, and mistakes, outdated framing, or missed updates are possible at any of those steps. Spotting one? Tell us and we'll fix it.

Verify before you act — that part's on you

Before you ship, order, or make any decision based on what you read here, confirm the current rules directly with the relevant provincial liquor regulator or your own advisor. If something on our page disagrees with what the regulator says, the regulator is right and we're out of date — please treat their word as final.

How we source

Every province and timeline entry links the primary sources it's built from — the actual government releases, regulator pages, and legislation, not our own say-so. Where we rely on secondary reporting or haven't been able to confirm something, we try to say so plainly. If you only click one thing on a page, make it the source links: they take you to the authority, which is where a real decision should come from.

You use this site at your own risk. It and its content are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent the law allows, Drink Direct and the people behind it aren't liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from anything you did (or didn't do) in reliance on the information here. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you. If that trade-off doesn't work for you, please don't rely on the site.
